Welcome to bikecomo where everyone who rides a bike is a "real cyclist".
Why bikecomo?
I have been riding bikes for lots of different reasons for lots of years. When I was about twelve, I had an epiphany:soda-pop and chocolate make really good fuel for this vehicle. Since that day, I have been in love with bikes. I have ridden many different kinds of bikes (single speeds, touring bikes, cargo bikes. mountain bikes, city bikes) for many different reasons (sport, recreation, transportation, moving). Over the years I have come up against a really frustrating attitude common among cyclists. I hear it over and over in many different contexts, it goes something like this: "He/She's not a real cyclist, because ----fill in blank----." Here are some common reasons I have come across. "He/She is not a real cyclist, because 1) her bike has fenders and racks; 2) he rides a fixie; 3) she only rides in triathlons; 4) he rides a crappy department store bike; 5) she bikes to work; 6) he doesn't stop at stop signs; 7) she wears spandex and only rides when its sunny; 8) he rides a cargo bike and hauls lots of junk around; 9) she only rides on the trail; 10) he rides a recumbent.
This cyclist v. cyclist snobbiness hurts everyone who bikes for any reason. As far as I can tell, regardless of the definition of a "real cyclist" we all want the same thing: a safe, enjoyable, harrassment-free bike ride whenever and wherever and whyever we want or need to go.
With this in mind, I give you bikecomo.com, where everyone who rides a bike is a "real cyclist." Welcome and enjoy.
